Japan's environmental concern is as shallow as a puddle

The first sign of silliness is the countless unnecessary bags they give you in shops even when you buy one thing. Inside all the other packages it just adds up to being a farce so that after I've eaten lunch there's this sodding mound of paper and plastic bags and cartons to throw away. I think the Japanese believe that because they recycle it that it's enough, and they get to call themselves green. And on the bags it says things like 'ecology!' or 'save the environment!', the irony being completely lost on them as they dump another load into the smiley bins. It says the same on throwaway spoons and chopsticks too, as if by writing ecology on something you use once and throw away has any concern for um, ecology. Hilarious.

The average car in Japan seems to be a 2.0 litre V6 planet fcuker, many of them having those poxy exhausts which make the car sound throatier, and somehow more, um, manly. Well, it certainly sounds angry and manly when they park outside my flat at one o'clock in the morning slamming their car doors. Yeah, wow, that's manly.

I sometimes go past a car garage when cycling around and on the forecourt there are vans with their lights flashing and engines running - all day. Their engines are left running all day. I had to repeat that because it's so stupid it makes me want to spit. Look everyone - our vans work!

Environment? Ecology? No, that is all forgotten about apart from a few nonsense phrases on wasteful cartons. The environment might as well give up because there really is no hope. Especially not from here anyway.

terrorism; a world of ugly, pointless stupidity

So the terrorists have finally struck London, as many feared was on the cards. It was clear that joining the Bush fiasco in Iraq that Britain would come near the top of a list of targets. But it still reeks of madness, vile outrage, vileness writ large. And pointless too, for they will never win, whatever it is they want. They are part of history now, but history will show how nonsensical it all is.

You look at bin Ladin and Zarkawi and see such inhumane fury, and also such ugliness; for were two uglier men ever more photographed? They rage at freedom it seems, a way of life much different to theirs. Perhaps they want us all back in the dark ages, they want women to be slaves with no rights, they want us to pray to gods who supposedly go in for blowing the arms and legs off civilians going to work.

They see the west as a great evil but fail to look closer at what we really are. For it was the west that came to the aid of Bosnia and Kosovo and all its muslim inhabitants. It fails to see that London itself is a place where the whole world in its many diverse forms and religions lives somewhat chaotically but peacefully too. Until vile nonsense like this happens to shatter all illusions.

So what to do now? The world as a whole must hunt down, find, apprehend, kill, imprison and eradicate this evil from the world. Everyone must do their bit, every country must do whatever is necessary to rid us of this foul stench of vicious butchery. We simply cannot rest until this is done. Bin Ladin and his ugly, stupid, rabid followers have got to know that the end of the road beckons.

Coupled with this the world must not allow brutal and immoral American presidents to pick and choose wars based on personal profit, oil, revenge or any other reason. We must not support this utter nonsense. We must also promote freedom and democracy not from the barrel of a gun. We must have greater controls on the sale of weapons around the world. And we must also insist on fair trade to help poor countries rid themselves of poverty. Maybe then we can look at ourselves and believe that we have done all we can.
